Ritz-Carlton Resort – Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman

The Ritz-Carlton complex in Grand Cayman consists of a 4-story and a 7-story hotel with two 7-story condo buildings. The 4-story hotel with ballroom, restaurants, spa and other amenities is located on a lagoon at the north shore. The 7-story hotel and two 7-story condo buildings are located across the main highway on the beach. Connection between the two is served with a pedestrian enclosed bridge located above the highway. Construction utilized cast-in-place concrete for the main building structures with structural steel roof framing. Hotel buildings utilized post tensioned concrete and the condo buildings utilized regular reinforcing. Lateral loads are resisted by concrete shear walls. During the last year of construction the complex underwent 150 mph winds from Hurricane Ivan and approximately 30 day later a significant earthquake. Observations of the hotel revealed no structural damage from either of these occurrences. The hotel and condos were opened in 2008 and the estimated construction cost was $200,000,000.
