Bennett & Pless Announces Addition of New Principal

October 1, 2016 – Bennett & Pless, one of the largest, longstanding, consulting structural engineering firms in the Southeast, recently promoted Thomas F. Ireland, PE to Principal. Ireland, who joined Bennett & Pless originally in 1985, has been instrumental in the firm’s growing practice as well as managing the Chattanooga office, where the firm established its presence in 1969.

Ireland’s career began as a designer and he joined the Bennett & Pless team in 1985 after graduating from Tennessee Technological University. In 1991, he took on the position of Chattanooga Office Manager. From there he grew to an Associate role and eventually to Vice President, and now Principal. A veteran of the Chattanooga engineering and construction market, his experience includes over 30 years of providing structural solutions for the needs of local, regional and national clients. Ireland has worked on several landmark projects for the Chattanooga area including the Chattanooga Convention Center, The Chattanoogan Hotel and numerous buildings on the campus of the University of Tennessee Chattanooga.

“Tommy has been successful in every position he’s held with us over the years and we’re pleased to welcome him as one of the partners of the firm,” said Edward A. Gazzola, PE, Chief Executive Officer for Bennett & Pless. “His practical approach to the design of various building types and other specialty structures such as signs and billboards, supports the core of our business philosophy and has helped us expand our client base and grow the firm. He has earned this partnership and we are confident in his ability to contribute to the firm at a strategic level moving forward.”
